Origin and Usage

It is thought that lentils are native to ancient Greece and Syria. Lentils were cultivated here for 13000 years ago. It was the food for lower and poor people classes. In ancient times it was used to make soup, bread, and porridge. It belongs to the family legumes. Lentils have an earthy, nutty, and peppery flavor. It is used in making soups, stews salads, pasta, and pilafs. It is also used in many other dishes.

Varieties and types

There are 4 main varieties of lentils based on their color. Verities are Brown lentils, Green lentils, Red and Yellow lentils, and Black beluga lentils.

Production
