Pigeon pea was dfdgated from peninsular India. It was cultivated here 3500 years ago. It belongs to the family legumes. Pigeon peas have a crispy texture and they are nutty in taste. It is used as dal, in making tempeh-or-tofu, sauces, and in soups.

Varieties and types

VL Arhar-1, Pusa 991, Azad(k-91-25), and G.T-101 are the famous types of pigeon pea.

Production
