Blood oranges are like common oranges but their flesh color is distinctive dark maroon due to the presence of a pigment name anthocyanins. The taste of blood orange is also different and unique from other oranges. It is a hybrid orange between pomelo and tangerine. It’s a natural mutation of the orange. This fruit is eaten as food and is also used in baked items.

Types

Blood orange has many types such as Moro, Tarocco, and, Sanguinello. Tarocco is the sweetest and most flavorful of the three types.

Brazil, United States, China, India, and Mexico are the top 5 countries in the production of Blood oranges. Only Brazil contributes 35% of total production of blood oranges.
