Caren berries also control harmful acids in your mouth and save you from many mouth diseases such as gum diseases, tooth decay, and even oral cancer. 

Origin and Usage

Cranberry has been cultivated since the 1800s in the Cape Cod areas. It spread to New Jersey in 1830 and Pacific Northwest by the 1880s. It belongs to the family Ericaceae. Cranberry is a small round, pear-shaped fruit that varies in color from pink to dark red and white. It is eaten fresh and used in making cranberry juice and sauce. It is also used in making jelly and in baking.

Varieties and Types

Cranberry has more than 100 varieties. Some famous varieties are Alfredo, sealers, Lear, Berman, Compactum, Crowley, Early Black, Redwing, and McFarlin.

Historical Importance

Native Americans used wild cranberries as both a food crop and colorful dye. They also used this berry for medicine. 

Production

In 2019 total production of cranberry was 687,534 tons. The USA is the biggest producer of Cranberry. Canada and Chile are also the big producers of this fruit.
