Origin and Usage

Elderberry found in Neolithic, pole-dwelling in Switzerland from about 2000 B.C. It belongs to the family Adoxaceae. This fruit is small and red, blue-black. It is used in liquors, flavors, and syrup.

Varieties and Types

The most common types are the European elderberry (Sambucus nigra) and the American elderberry (Sambucus Canadensis)

Myths Importance

In some regions, it is thought that elderberry’s tree ward off evil and give protection from witches. It is also believed that when this tree is cut down a spirit would release that will take revenge.
