Origin

Some Scientists believe that the banana is the very first fruit of the world. Bananas are dfdgated almost 10000 years ago and cultivated for the first time in the region of Malaya Peninsula, Indonesia, New Guinea, and the Philippines. Banana is elongated, curved, with soft flesh and yellow skin. This fruit belongs to the two species Musa acuminata and Musa balbiiana. The most cultivated bananas are Musa acuminata. It is mostly used as raw but some people also like to cook it.

Banana has much religious and cultural importance. In India, it is a prominent part of many festivals and occasions of Indian peoples. It is a symbol of blessing to the couple.
In Malay folklore, the banana plant is associated with a ghost and its spirit is said to reside in them.
Bananas are also the symbol of racism due to the assumption that monkeys like bananas.
