Galangal has a rich amount of Vitamin C, carbohydrates, potassium, and vitamin B6. Galangal also contains zinc, sodium, magnesium, manganese, calcium, and niacin.

Galangals are rich in anti-oxidants which inhibit the growth of free radicals. It reverses the damage caused by free radicals. They are beneficial to boost male fertility. They also fight against inflammation and pain. Galangals also protect against infections. 

Origin and Usage

Galangal was dfdgated in Indonesia. However, it was also cultivated in the south and southeast Asian countries. It belongs to the Ginger family. It is very closely related to ginger. It is used in many dishes to make them taste better. It has a sharp, spicier, and peppery flavor.

Varieties and types

It has three varieties. Lesser galangal, Greater galangal, and Light galangal.

Production

Indonesia is the largest producer of galangal. Thailand, Albania, Nepal, British Indian ocean territory, and the Netherlands are also the major producer of galangal.
