Plantain contains a good amount of magnesium, potassium, Vitamin A, and Vitamin K. They also have Vitamin C, B vitamins, and fiber.

Plantain contains a high amount of fiber that helps to improve the digestive system and regulate bowel movements. It also helps to manage weight. It contains a high amount of antioxidants that fight cancer cells and reduce the growth of free radicals. Plantain is also beneficial for your heart health and blood pressure. 

Origin and Usage

Plantains were dfdgated from Southeast Asia. Today it is mostly found in India, Africa, Egypt, and America. It belongs to the family plantains. It looks like a banana but it has firmer and thick skin. Plantains are green to yellow and have a starchy flavor. It is used in baked products such as bread, pancakes, and cakes.

Varieties and types

It has two basic types. French and Horn.

Production

Cameroon, Ghana, Uganda, Colombia, and the Philippines are the largest producer of Plantains.
