Water spinach is used for the treatment of jaundice and liver problems. It may aid weight loss and prevent obesity. It promotes heart health by lowering cholesterol levels. It contains a high amount of iron which helps to stimulate the production of red blood cells and prevent anemia. It is beneficial for digestive system health. It prevents constipation and regulates bowel movements. It also has anti-diabetic properties. 

Origin and Usage

Water spinach is native to Southeast Asia. It was first domesticated during the Chin Dynasty. It belongs to the morning-glories family. It produces trumpet-shaped flowers. It has a mild, nutty flavor taste. It is a good substitute for spinach. It is used as cooked.

Varieties and types

It has two major types, Ching Quat and Pak Quat.

Production

Cambodia, China, Laos, and Vietnam are the largest producers of water spinach.
